Can you believe we are approaching October 2020? This year has brought positive and negative changes in the world but the one change we can always depend on is the change of season. When the weather transitions from hot to warm and the leaves begin to change from green to orange.
Pumpkins come out and you can almost smell the scent of apple cider in the air. Fall brings with it Halloween and Thanksgiving. One holiday allows us to dress up and be someone else for a day. We can shed our regular personas and embrace our imagination. The other holiday reminds us of the many things in our lives that we take for granted. It reminds us to slow down and be grateful for our blessings & our challenges.
Yes our challenges!
I can remember the hustle & bustle of getting the kids out of bed and off to school before the bell rung. Then navigate traffic to get to work on time. But then the world stopped. Those four hours I spent each day on the road, gave way to four additional hours of family time. We didn’t have to rush to soccer practice, cub scouts, business meetings, or other activities. We could wake up and come downstairs to eat, play and enjoy being with one another.
We got more time to show love, patience, commitment to one another in spite of the worries for what the next day would bring. Life slowed down and we, at least I was, able to breathe. It gave time for reflection regarding what is truly important.
Over the last few months, we have fought a battle with COVID 19 running throughout my family. I have had family members hospitalized at the same time and to this day, we continue to pray for the recovery of a loved one with pre-existing conditions. But what I have learned from this year is that we are resilient and committed to being better than we ever have been before.
Where in the past, there were things which kept our family apart; now those things just don’t seem to matter. I can’t help but to think that if we could focus on the things we have gained this year we may be able to realize that we are far more powerful than you could ever imagine. This year is a time of family and faith.
Faith in a higher power.
Faith in yourself.
Faith in your family.
Faith to build a family of your choosing.
Faith to start a new challenge or dream.
Faith that it is enough to just enjoy the moment we are in.
Faith that you can make a difference in this world.
Faith that this world can improve.
A new season is a wonderful opportunity to create a new mindset. Just as the trees shed their leaves, you can shed your baggage. You can shed your insecurities. Carve your frustrations into a few pumpkins and discard them with the unneeded pulp. You are stronger than you ever thought possible.
We are resilient people who cannot be broken by the things of 2020. We will survive and we will thrive.
Til next time,
We are each stronger by faith.
