Happy Today!

As we approach 2020 I can’t help but think back to a time in which I faced some challenges that at times I thought would break me. There was negativity around me everywhere I turned but my own stubborn in your face attitude wouldn’t let me quit the job. My mind was weak but my will was stubborn and I just felt like I wasn’t going to let anyone break me.

I used to chant over and over – get through the next day. Get through the next hour. Then it was get through the next minute. Later it was a routine to cry every single day as I drove to work. I would experience increased heart rate and by the time I pulled into my office, I had the beginnings of a killer migraine. This went on for six months before I noticed I had a problem.

That’s when I decided I had to make some changes. I began to alternate my morning activity to include empowering music, podcasts and audiobooks immediately upon getting in the car. I became obsessed with filling my mind and spirit with positivity, encouragement and empowerment.

I listened to The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale everyday. This book became like a life textbook to me. I journaled, I made life wish lists, I recorded gratitude and I remembered that I held the power over my life.

Eventually the job that once gave me so much joy was gone but the practices of positivity I learned while trying to hold on to that position have lasted longer. I was back to being the girl who found the silver lining in everything and smiled just to smile.

If you are going though, have come out of or just need a reminder that storms in your life can be managed through a healthy mindset; read this book. You can’t achieve in change in your life if you don’t ensure that you keep your mind healthy.

Til next time,

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” – Willie Nelson
